Building Occupancy Classification — Occupancy classification is to be based upon an assessment of a projected chemical inventory of the building, building use and classification, construction type, location of the laboratory (1st floor, 2nd floor, basement, etc.), and the height of the building. Prior to the final design, the campus Authority Having Jurisdiction will need to approve an occupancy class to insure compliance with building code.

Environmental Permits — Project Managers shall consult with the campus Environmental Protection Office to identify permitting and pollution abatement engineering requirements for the building. This should be done well before key resource allocation decisions are made.
